Our colocation provider had about 6 hours of downtime earlier this afternoon. But now everything has been restored and the servers themselves weren't affected. Woo!
Wednesday, August 3, 2011
Aubergine is up and running, and nightshade has been virtualized! Hopefully, besides a few hours of downtime, nobody will ever know the difference :)
Tuesday, August 2, 2011
Our new server, Aubergine, has arrived at the colo and will hopefully be installed today! We will have some downtime during the switchover, but should be up and running by tomorrow!
UPDATE: Looks like it'll be installed tomorrow (Wednesday)! So no downtime until then.
Sunday, July 10, 2011
We're finally building a new machine to replace our email server (Nightshade). The new machine is named Aubergine, follow the link for details! We hope to have it up and running by the end of the month at the latest.

Email is down while we put in a request to reset the server. It should be fixed by the end of the day!
Tuesday, October 13, 2009
Email has been down all day. Our colocation is having some issues, and hopefully it will be resolved soon.
UPDATE 2009-10-14: Still no email server, it appears that we're having some hardware problems. If we can't get it up and running by tonight we'll fail over to a backup server.
UPDATE 2009-10-14 #2: I've got the server back online and am doing some maintenance on the disks (rebuilding the RAID). We will be processing email again shortly.
Monday, May 4, 2009
Our fresh install is up and running. I have email configured and the other services will follow over the next day or so (email was the most important). Let us know if you have any issues -- firstname.lastname@example.org (or email@example.com if yo can't get through to support).
Sunday, May 3, 2009
Update: Our ISP is helping with the reinstall, but has run into some trouble. So we're down today too. If we have to we'll make our web server do some double-duty in managing email (it already serves as a backup server, receiving email while the primary is down).
Saturday, May 2, 2009
Due to a security breach, we are doing a complete reinstall of our email server (Nightshade). The server will be down all day, but we expect no email loss.
While the email server is down, you can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org

Our SSL certificates are now fixed! All systems working normally.
Friday, April 10, 2009
Our main SSL certificate has expired, and we are in the process of getting the new one all set up. In the meantime you may experience some warnings about the current certificate. Sorry for the inconvenience. We should have it fixed within the next few days.

Well the re-install has worked perfectly, and we're finally getting some solid uptime. At last!
On another note, our upstream registrar has increased prices -- so from this point forward domain registrations are $8.50/year (instead of the previous $7.50/year). It's not a large increase, but we wanted to make sure you're aware of it.

In order to fix the recent downtime on Mirabel, we are going to re-install the operating system. This will happen at 10:00am EDT on Sat August 23. Sometime before then services will be down to ensure a clean backup.
Saturday, March 22, 2008
Services are limited on Mirabel right now as we do some much-needed disk maintenance. We should have everything back up and running before Monday, and web serving will work throughout.
Update: All services are now back to normal

We apologise for the sporadic unexpected downtime over the past few weeks. We believe we have made significant progress in eliminating the source of the problem, and do not expect any more significant outages. In order to make up for the downtime, hosting fees will be waived for the months of December and January. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Tuesday, July 10, 2007
We had a major RAID failure a few days ago. The bad hardware has already been replaced and we are currently working to restore all of the affected data from offsite backups. We greatly apologise for the extended downtime. No data was lost, and all services will be restored within the next few days. Paid customers will not be charged hosting fees for the month of July.
If you have any questions, or notice any problems you think we may have missed, please contact us at email@example.com. Thanks again for your patience!

In our continuing effort to provide you with better service, our mail system will see sporatic outages over the next few days as we upgrade our hardware. We ask for your patience and understanding during the upgrades. Please note that we will not be rejecting or bouncing any mail during this downtime, and that all mail will be delivered to your inbox no later than at the conclusion of the upgrades.
If you have any questions or problems, you may contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org but don't be surprised if we don't answer promptly. Our mail is down too!

Mail is back up! We finally got everything working this evening. The final queued messages are being delivered now. If you have any questions about this outage, you may now contact us at email@example.com. Thank you for your patience!

The mail server was down most of the day today due to an adjacent UPS that failed and caught fire. The server itself was not damaged, and we hope to have everything back up and running by Friday morning. Please note that although you cannot check or send mail during this outage, mail that others send you is unaffected. Thank you for your patience!

Pointless.epfarms.org broke one year of uptime today. This is the second time this server has pulled off such a feat, and is a fitting way for her to end her more than five years in service with us. In a few weeks, a brand new dual Xeon server will be replacing her. Thanks, pointless!
Monday, July 31, 2006
Our mailing address for payments has changed! If you are planning to send a payment by mail, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org beforehand, to get the new address. The postal service has not been forwarding all of our mail to the proper places, so sending payment to the old address could result in siginificant delays!

Sadly, due to contract renegotiation, we have been forced to raise our price for SSL certificates from $15 to $35. We apologise for this most unfortunate change, but we have no choice in the matter. Contact email@example.com if you have any questions.

*** Warning to PHPNuke users! ***
We have recently had several user accounts fall victim to the exploit mentioned at http://secunia.com/advisories/15244/. The only people affected are those running old versions of PHPNuke that are vulnerable to this attack, but the impact to these users has been significant (including temporary loss of account access). If you use PHPNuke on your website, and would rather not have malicious users hijacking your account, you are highly encoraged to upgrade to the newest release version immediately, and to keep PHPNuke up-to-date in the future. Thanks!

Eggplant Farms sends our congratulations to Brock! He graduates today with a degree in philosophy. Though he will be remaining on staff with us, we wish him luck with all the changes to come. Congratulations to all of the 2004 graduates!

There are two birthdays to celebrate today. Eggplant Farms has turned one; happy birthday to us! Also, happy third birthday to our oldest continuously-operating webserver. Cumulative web server statistics can be found here if you'd like to take a look.

The new website has been up for a few days now, lots of thanks to Mandie for the redesign! The new site and logo are just two of the visible results during the ongoing improvement of our services.
Sunday, January 25, 2004
Thanks everybody for your patience during the downtime today. Mirabel's problems have been resolved and she is back up. Thus ends two months of flawless uptime.... Once again we apologize for any inconvenience.

Website has gone live! The old site is here [moved]. Eventually it will be moved to community.epfarms.net.
